Come along to Number 25 and learn to knit! If you have never picked up a pair of needles before, this is the perfect workshop for you - learn cast on, knit stitch, and cast off to make a stylish headband that's perfect for a blustery Orkney day! In the afternoon, we're going to do some experimental knitting with looms, arms and fingers, so come along and try something new. All materials are included!
For more details, get in contact with Number 25 on the above number.
The next two workshops will run on the 18th of March, and are split into beginners and intermediate. They will focus on toy making, or "amigurumi" as it's otherwise known.
In the first workshop, we'll learn how to make a magic circle, and crochet in the round with increases and decreases to create different shapes. The little Selkie is an easy project for someone looking to try crochet doll making, and is suitable for beginners in both crochet and doll making.
The second workshop is suitable for those who are confident in crocheting, and are looking to learn how to make more complex shapes and effects. I will demonstrate how to make features such as crocheted eyes, threaded hair, and the different ways that parts can be finished and attached to the main body.
All materials will be provided, and booking is made through For Arts Sake. I look forward to seeing you at the next workshop!
For the adventurous beginner, this three hour workshop will focus on decoding both written patterns and crochet charts. We'll be making fun little appliqués - flowers, hearts, decorative granny squares - using different crochet techniques. The workshop will show you how a written pattern is translated into a drawn chart, giving you the confidence to begin using crochet patterns of both types.
Please bring along any samples of crochet you've made so we can have a look as a group, and don't forget to bring your crochet hooks! If you don't have any, don't worry - all materials will be provided. Refreshments will also be provided during a short break.
I look forward to seeing you at the next workshop!
This three hour workshops is aimed at beginners, or those looking for a refresher in crochet materials, techniques and terminology. We'll be briefly looking at the history of crochet, and how it has developed and diversified in recent years. I'll be bringing a variety of crocheted items, from apparel to amigurumi, that we can look at and discuss with the aim of understanding the stitches and how they are used. I will also have a range of different types of crochet hook for you to try, and lots of different yarn types to experiment with. Some pieces of flat and in-the-round crochet that have been started will be available, but I'll also be able to teach you how to begin different styles of crochet. All materials are included, but please bring along any pieces of crochet you've done for everyone to have a look at! There will be a 20-30 minute break with refreshments provided.
Looking forward to seeing you at the workshop!
